Your Valuable Guide to Porches
Sure you have that dream porch that you¡Çve always wanted to have. And now that you have the budget for it, you would like to move on along and have it built. You want it done right away – and if possible – right now! Well your passion and aggressiveness is admirable – yet this is not the right way to approach it. Although you already know what you want to build and how it will look like, you should understand that you don¡Çt have the luxury to do all you want. You are governed by the codes and laws of your locality – and also in the home association you are a member at. These laws are there for safety reasons – not only for yourself, but for the other residents in the area. All are required to follow these – else your plan will not be approved. Start with your limitation – work with what is allowed. With just the right dose of creativity, you have lots of options on how to go about designing and building your porch. So first and foremost, it is important to know the rules. This is the first step. You should then create your porch plan around these guidelines set. In this way, you will not have problems during the approval and inspection of your plan. Determine the budget you have for the project. You should know how much you are really willing to spend for your porch. This will be an important factor to consider, since you may have some more important priorities as of the moment. And pursuing the project during this time might dig a big hole in your financial savings. If you find that your budget will not allow you have a porch worthy to have, then you should consider postponing it until you have the right amount of budget for it. It is always to your advantage not to settle for anything less than quality materials and design. Set aside some of your money every month that will eventually be used for your porch project in the near future. What is important here is that you should not hurry up just so you will have porch right away. You want a beautiful and functional porch – not just any porch. So have the patience to wait for the right time – when you have the right budget for the porch of your desire. Decorate it with furniture. Depending on how you want your porch to look like, so will the type of furniture you will place there. You may want to have it take the theme you have for your house. You might want to consider as well bringing outside some existing furniture you have – ones that are durable & seems fitting for your plan – and start enjoying the coziness of your wonderful porch. Consider adding rocking chairs along with the regular chairs and tables there. Some have also added a porch swing for a more relaxing time in the area. You will find your evenings usually spent on the swing. Your kids will love it too – and quality time at home will be a lot easier. Highlight with colors. To add some colors on your porch, consider putting vintage tablecloths, tea towels and quilts. You can always treat these textiles with water-repellant spray for their protection. Pillows for your chairs or swings may also be put in to add comfort & some decorative effect on the furniture. These pillows will be nice to hug every once in a while, or it can be used to support the back when sitting. Not to forget are plants that are naturally beautiful – and will provide for a calming atmosphere on your porch. You should consider plants that will grow all year-round so that your porch will continue to have a touch of nature all throughout. Potted plants along the edges of the porch or wherever – as long as carefully placed to strategic parts of the area will make the place more attractive. Flowers in front of the porch will add color and highlights that will worthily attract attention & admiration. Play around with your creativity and try adding hanging plants in your porch. If tastefully done, your porch will look magnificent. Don¡Çt try to overdo it though – as long as it fits the whole view, it should be enough. Your consideration however with placing plants inside is the possibility of attracting insects inside. You might want to use wasp collectors or bug zappers to address this. If your porch is screened however, these insects will pose less of a problem for you. Painting your flooring. Make sure you use paint that is fit for porches. Such paints are more durable than those for interior uses – since porches are more prone to be subjected to the different elements. Consider the color of your paint to go along with the theme of your house. You don¡Çt want to shock the visitors or guests of your homes when they go from one part of the house to another. It should be able to provide for a nice transition. You should have a common theme – and not stray too far away from it. Decorative Lighting for your porch. Nighttimes will present an opportunity for you to use decorative lighting to play around with the type of atmosphere you want for your porch. You can use overhead lights, string lights or lamps – as appropriate. Ceiling fans with lights can also be used as necessary. There is much you can do with decorative lighting. You can make certain portions of your porch brighter - so that you¡Çll have a good mix of functionality for these different parts. Experiment with lighting to make your porch more beautiful during nighttime. Having nice-looking porch railings. To have such effect, your porch railings should have decorative details. It will have a classy look with such. Different railings have different designs – thus giving out different effects when used on your porch. The color of your railings will also contribute to the overall effect of the porch. You should choose among your color preferences – but should be one that will not go in conflict with the other colors around. |
