Free Home Security System Can Be Costly With Associated Charges

More people may be interested in home safety if they were made aware of a free home security system being offered by many companies. However many advertisements professing to offer a free home security system, do not point out the subtle charges the homeowner will be responsible for once they receive the system. Similar to the ploys used by cell phone companies offering free cell phones, there is a cost associated with the free product.

Typically, with the free cell phone deals, the person is required to sign up for a certain level of service for a specific length of time. Similarly, with a free home security system the homeowner must pay for professional installation, usually around $100 and pay a monthly monitoring fee. While the retail value of the system may approach $1,000, receiving a free home security system will cost about the same with installation and a two-year monitoring contract.

However, many people are taking advantage of receiving a free home security system, especially if they have been considering securing their home anyway. Being able to knock about $1,000 from the initial bill and have the system professionally installed, can be a big plus in many markets where crime is on the rise.

Components Available For Purchase Without Contract

For homeowners who hesitate to contract for monthly monitoring service, they may consider buying the components necessary and installing them on their own. However, doing so may eliminate any chance of having it work with a dialer supplied by the company. Agreeing to accept a free home security system is going to require an agreement for a monitoring contract.

It is possible to install a system without tying into a phone dialer and with many families choosing to eliminate landlines in favor of cell phones, that may be their only option as most dialing systems will not work with cell service. Currently, there are no offers for free home security system without a contract, just as no company will give someone a free cell phone without a service contract.

As many professionals in the security business claim, it is hard to put a price on the security and safety of a family and getting started is easier when a free home security system is included at the start of the business relationship. If, for some reason the contract is not fulfilled by the homeowner, the cost of the system plus the normal installation price will usually become due.
