Don¡Çt put it off for tomorrow

Remember tomorrow never comes, and ultimately this will show in the state of your house as your piles of clutter grow ever bigger waiting on tomorrow.

I once saw this sign on a fridge magnet somewhere and thought it to be quite apt regarding myself.

It had a cartoonish figure of a woman in terrycloth robe and furry slippers, with a pile of messy laundry just in front of her. The slogan was: ¡ÈIf I could just get started, I would be unstoppable¡É.

Her problem was exactly what I had been suffering from for years, and it made me laugh because that was so exactly my thinking at the time that it never occurred to me that to become unstoppable I really did need to start somewhere.

I lay complacent in the knowledge that if wanted to I could declutter my house in the blink of an eye. The fact that I couldn¡Çt even bring myself to declutter a little bit never gave me pause for thought. If ever I wanted to I could do it, and that was that.

Of course I did prove myself right in the long run, but it took up too many years of my life to even get to the point to where I seriously wanted to think about doing anything on a decluttering front.

The best thing that you could do therefore would be to start today, do even a small five to ten minute bout of decluttering, and if you keep at it for a few days, you will find that eventually these five to ten minutes bouts aren¡Çt all that painful.

You might even find yourself upping the time you take to declutter as well! But the long and the short of it is that you need to start somewhere, and at some point in time. So why not make the time, now?
