  1. I got a BA in English, and I’m not doing anymore college, at least not for now. Apprenticeships are the way to go.

  2. You hit the nail right on the head. Everyone is faced with the same dilemma. From what I’ve heard, since the economy is so bad, they know they can get people with experience that have been laid off, and we are SOL. I tell them, “How am I supposed to have/get experience when I just graduated from college if you won’t give me an opportunity to gain some experience?” A lot of the workforce will be retiring in the next several years, so they will have to hire us to replace them sometime.

  3. Exactly, how will we ever get experience for a job, if you need experience to get the job.

  4. I graduated back last May with my B.S. in Civil Engineering, but no one out in the work force wanted anyone without EXPERIENCE (usually a minimum of 5 years). I decided to go back and get my master’s in civil engineering. Hopefully that will make me more attractive than others, but we shall see. I do think classes in college teach way too much theory, and not practical, real world applications like you said DemCad. It was that way in the civil engineering program.

  5. i have a BS from RIT – it took a long time to get it because i went full time at a company before finishing it – i didnt enjoy the way the ‘quarter’ system was going and was having trouble getting through the classes which seemingly were made ‘difficult’ for the sake of it … – i did have better temp jobs after the degree, but never ever have been able to get a ‘salary’ over $40k since graduating in 1999. this is an engineering technology degree that required a lot of frustration and living in

  6. Nice try. Keep it up check out esteembpo + com for social media marketing. KUYFDG

  7. I have a degree from NYU in music, where I was an honors student- probably a quarter of a million dollar degree today. Private music teaching is unstable so I’ve been trying to get out of it. I send out about 50 resumes a week. Whole Foods just called me for an interview to work in the bakery (1st call in 4 months!). My math teacher from childhood- a PHD in math- just told me that she makes 1K per semester (she teaches one class) teaching math at U of MD. The tuition doesn’t go to the teachers.

  8. I don’t know. But I’ve learned to accept that the vast majority of these hateful people attending universities or who have AA’s, BA’s, MA’s and PHD’s all look down on those with only a high school education.

My view is probably biased though, where I used to live the rate for people attending college was much higher than the national average.

  9. Drealm,
How do you know that her friend looked down on people?

I admit that there are a lot of people like that, but I don’t like to see people suffer.

    lilgame34,
By the way, her friend can still find work in the private sector in countries like Brazil, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.

  10. You gotta understand, college is BIG business. Many courses and degrees are bullshit degrees. Its all about employing useless professors and fleecing students / families for everything they got. I read how ivy league schools are sitting on billions of dollars. Its out of control.

  11. Living at home is financially smart. The idea of moving out when your 18 is a western idea. Actually it’s more so a upper middle class American idea. And when most people start “living on their own”, it’s more symbolic than anything because often people are subsidized by their parents or live with other room mates. That’s not really living on your own. If you look at Italy, Russia, South America and most of Asia, it’s common for several generations to live under one roof.

  12. I don’t feel sorry for them. Those are the same people who laughed at people like myself who couldn’t get into college in the first place. Now I’m better off financially than them, but I don’t rub it in.

  13. ACTUALLY,
I have a friend who went to college, Biology major, and when she finished her undergratuate years, she was in debt around 40K (Not counting the interest!) I feel sad because she failed to attend any Med. School with low mcat scores and now she cannot find any job and she has a mountain of debt!!
DO you know how sad I feel when i see her cry!?!???

  14. Life is what you make of it. Many people don’t realize that even in a lifetime. Many people think I’m odd because I’m single, have no kids, and I still live at home at 29 years old. I enjoy my life very much. I’m not gay but I’ll never get married or have kids. I’ll date a woman every now and then. As much as I love women, I’m also smart enough to never give them any kind of opportunity or chance to take me to the cleaners ($). lol. Seriously! Life is a game and I’m always winning it for me!

  15. I’m a young white man who voted for Pres. Obama. Despite what people think, I think he’s a better president than Bush #44 was in the White House for 8 years. But, as a society, we have to always remember to watch out for ourselves in every way. I’m a big believer in prevention. I used to be obese. I was 235lbs. with a 44″ waist. Now, through diet and exercise, I’m now 190lbs with a 34″ waist. I haven’t had health insurance for years. Many rely on the government too much. I take care of me!

  16. I agree with you. Those aholes took all our money in those various bailout schemes in deceptive ways. Politicians only care about themselves and getting votes. That’s the truth. I liked your marriage myth video. I’m 29 years old, have an Associate’s and a Bachelor’s degree from college, single, never been married, and I don’t have any kids. Marriage is for losers. I’ll always stay a bachelor with zero kids. I’m too independent and I love my freedom. People can’t be trusted, especially women.

  17. So you’ve figured it out, but it’s too late. They got you to spend all that money you didn’t have. The plus side is now you know what these assholes are doing. They’re not your friends helping you to succeed in life. They are taking your money you haven’t even earned yet. Again, they are taking your money you haven’t earned yet. Now pay them interest. Please use your story to help others. If you take suggestions, I recommend staying at home, it’s so much cheaper ($marter).

  18. I have an Associate’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree and I can’t even find a good paying job. I’m 29 years old, single, never married, and I don’t have any kids. The economy forces me to still live with my parents. A Bachelor’s degree is like the new high school diploma. I live in the state of Maryland by the way, which is kind of far from the state of Alaska. I was going to go work on an MBA degree but me going into an extra $40k in student debt doesn’t appeal to me at all.

  19. America is so broke that it’s both sad and pathetic. Both the US government and ordinary people are to blame. In many states now, many people rely on the state and federal government to take care of most or all of their issues. Governments aren’t designed to be a parent. Illegals form Mexico and other countries are economically hurting too. When construction jobs go out and go bust, many people take a hit, especially all the illegals.

  20. I’m currently putting up with all kinds of bullshit hours in order to keep a job. I don’t really have much of an option. One week I called in on a Saturday and still had 62 hours. Last week I worked 58 in 5 days. My life is surviving work. I need a job. I just heard a guy was fired somewhere else for not putting up with bullshit. He was supposed to be off for Memorial day and saw he was scheduled to work. He questioned it and was immediately given numerous criticisms and fired.

  21. 5/5 the more you understand the classism in this place the more you dislike this place. I’m sure plenty of young people have accomplished getting into debt these last 15 yrs. Now only to find the economy is terrible and there is no jobs.

Retirement may never come for us. Spend your money carefully and try to avoid bringing more working class into this world. You’ll be punishing them unless there is a dramatic change for the better. This life is really neat, until you don’t have money.

  22. college helped cripple my “marketability”. In today’s world smart ones get technical training and find jobs to make money in as fast as possible and then, maybe consider college.

  23. No doubt China is making a play for all the marbles, and it looks set to win this game. While the US burrows ever deeper under a mountain of debt, China is building and buying up real assets.

China’s increasing gold reserve could signal either a complete lack of confidence in the dollar, a desire to replace the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency, or both. I’m thinking both.

This will be devastating for the US economy. Debts are meant to be paid.

  24. mcse is microsoft crap. learn java programming especially for mobile devices.

  25. china is borrowing money all over the world using its massive t-bond holding as collateral. they are buying real assets. they are buying up 70% more copper than they can use. they are stocking up strategic reserve on oil, metals, and other commodities. they are shifting risk of the collapse of the dollar and t-bond right back to the U.S. very smart china.

they just double their gold reserve. this means they are prepare to turn their currency into the world reserve.
